HDClone 3.2 – Copying Hard Disks with AHCI and Firewire

02/14/2007

HDClone from Miray Software is a fast and easy-to-use solution for real 1:1 copies of hard disks and other media. The latest version - HDClone 3.2 - is available as from now and offers support for the fast standards AHCI (SATA II / eSATA) and Firewire (IEEE1394).

HDClone, a universal copying program for internal and external media, has now been released in version 3.2. As already known, it creates 1:1 copies (clones) of hard disks and other media (USB key, card reader etc.). By creating a 1:1 copy, HDClone can be used with any partition layout and any file system – copying entire operating system installations is also covered.

New in HDClone 3.2 is support for Firewire (IEEE1394) and AHCI (SATA II / eSATA). Firewire exceeds the real data rates achievable with USB by far, even doubling the speed in some cases. SATA II is the fastest PC interface available with a throughput of up to 18 GB/min. Current SATA II hard disks gain copy rates of up to 5 GB/min and more with HDClone – also on external drives via eSATA. The AreaCopy, another new feature, is intended for professional users and allows to copy arbitrary regions of any medium. HDClone 3.2 also offers full support of USB hubs.

„In the past year we could increase the user base of HDClone to more than 1 Mio users. We want to satisfy the confidence of our users by improving HDClone steadily further.“ Konrad Foikis, head of development at Miray, explains. „Since the copying speed is crucial, especially in case of 1:1 copies, we have decided to integrate support for Firewire, SATA II and external SATA (eSATA) into HDClone. This offers two benefits to our users: the choice between many different interface types and the ability to use the fastest data transfer standards available at present.“

HDClone is further on available in four editions: Free, Basic, Standard, and Professional. Already in the Free Edition, available at no cost, users benefit from the new features in HDClone 3.2. Support of SATA hard disks connected via an AHCI controller as well as USB hub support are included in the Free Edition.
