Miray Software announces a new version of the HDClone series for the end of October. Highlight of version 3.5 is the SmartCopy function that in many cases accelerates the copying process by a multiple. HDClone 3.5 will be presented on the SYSTEMS 2007 exposition in Munich for the first time.
HDClone makes physical copies of hard disks and other media or single partitions. The contents of the source media or the selected partition is transferred 1:1 to the destination media. Until now, also the areas that did not contain any data were copied. This keeps making sense and is necessary for data recovery and proprietary file systems, and in part for operation system copies and backups. For file partitions as well as many operating systems, though, the copying of areas filled with data is sufficient.
The new version with the new SmartCopy funtion now offers the possibility to copy only the used areas of a hard disk or partition. The result functionally equals a 1:1-copy, but cloning is in most cases faster by a multiple. For example, in the case of a 160 GB hard disk that is filled with 20 GB of data the copying process with the SmartCopy function takes about 8 minutes instead of about 55 minutes for a physical 1:1-copy on an average system. The SmartCopy function is only suitable for the use with intact media. It particularly serves the copying of hard disks and the creation of data backups with a minimal expenditure of time.
Furthermore, Miray offers the HDClone 3.5 Free Edition, which is mainly designed for hard disk migration for private users at no charge: http://www.miray.de/download/sat.hdclone.html.
